Modern Monologues
Summary
In this project, we generated monologues based off of the themes presented in Macbeth. The common themes were along the lines of greed, violence, betrayal, love, etc. The theme I chose for my monologue to follow is violence. The violence presented in my monologue is less on the personal scale of Macbeth's violence, and more upon a larger, genocidal scale. I wanted to experiment with setting and characters, so I chose play out this theme from the perspective of a lemon being lined up for destruction, all for the purpose of making lemonade.
Proposal
Below is a F/B picture of my monologue proposal (The general layout and structure for my monologue):
Audio Recording
In addition to writing this monologue, we had to voice and record the monologue. In the recording, I utilized a voice I use occasionally that (hopefully) reflected that of a lemon character (Lemongrab) in this position. Below is the recording. I wish I had better prepared to do the voice; my voice was worn out that day, so I didn't do much of a good job of impersonation.

Reflection
I know now more about the extensive variations of monologues and how a small detail such as who the recipient is, can change a monologue to one of the said variations. in addition to this, I used to thing monologues were simply long rants about something, but it turns out there is a lot more structure to it such as in-written solutions and ending actions. I chose to expand upon a common theme in Macbeth, violence. I experimented with this theme and extended it to the scale of genocide/massacre. I also feel that the sense of helplessness felt by the other character's in Macbeth was implied upon the other lemon characters. The monologue clearly begins as the narrator introduces the problem and consequences. This middle, or body, consists of probable solutions including negotiation, sacrifice, etc. The end is marked by the narrator expressing his hopes that his solutions will be considered and lemons would be free. As far as monologue creation goes, I did very well in my opinion, creating 2 monologue pieces that revolved around the same theme, but from different settings. In addition to this, I created a logo for the antagonistic corporation posed in my second monologue. I didn't realize that the essay existed, so in conjunction with the art piece, I wrote a short piece on the monologue. 95% of the time, I was devoted to the development of said products, the other 5% was spent cycling iTunes and being off task. There was a period of time while I was working on the art piece and I didn't realize I could turn in an art piece. So, technically, at the time I believed I was off task, but in fact, I was working.
